SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22, 2024 ~ In a recent development, drivers at Via Transportation, a contractor for the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency (SFMTA), have successfully organized and joined Teamsters Local 665. This partnership between the two organizations will play a crucial role in launching the Bayview Shuttle, which aims to provide public transit access to residents of the Bayview neighborhood in San Francisco.
Tony Delorio, Secretary-Treasurer at Local 665, expressed his pride in being a part of this transit launch that will bring expanded service to the Bayview community. He also highlighted the high density of union households in San Francisco's southeast neighborhood and how this new service will benefit both workers and community residents. Delorio sees this as an opportunity to bring mobility to seniors, workers, and youth while also creating new employment opportunities for Teamsters.

The card check for representation was conducted by Supervisor Shamann Walton, who has been a long-time advocate for transit expansion to underserved neighborhoods. Walton represents District 10, which includes the Bayview community.
The Bayview Shuttle is scheduled to begin its service on November 12, 2024. It aims to provide public transit access to communities that have historically lacked adequate connections to metropolitan and regional public transit services. The SFMTA has also announced that other communities in San Francisco may soon benefit from the expansion of this program.
Teamsters Local 665 represents over 5,000 working members in nine counties across Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area. Their members come from diverse industries, and they can be found at Teamsters665.org for more information.
