LOS ANGELES, June 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- BD&J – a Los Angeles-based personal injury law firm specializing in wrongful death and premises liability – is proud to announce a landmark settlement of $25 million in the tragic wrongful death of Ahasuereus "Woody" Woods Jr. This result comes after years of grueling litigation and grief on the part of the Woods family whose son and brother was unfairly taken from them.
Woody was a mere 19 years old when he attended a concert at a small restaurant venue in Ontario, California, in 2020. During the concert, other attendees began to argue and fight. As Woody attempted to make his way away from the fray, gunshots were fired. Woody was caught in the crossfire and later died of his gunshot wound. After begging for justice from many other law firms who refused to take the difficult case, the Woods family partnered with BD&J to bring the venue to justice for negligence. According to the lawsuit, the restaurant hosted the concert but took no safety measures, such as searches or security guards, and only provided one entrance and exit for the crowd. With lives on the line, this lack of preparation proved fatal for Woody.

Now, five years on from Woody's death, the Woods family has finally secured justice and can use the compensation from their lawsuit to build a legacy for Woody. Using part of the settlement, the Woods family has built a brand-new home to set their loved ones up for generational success, lovingly calling it "the house that Woody built." Woody's mother has also opened her own restaurant with the proceeds to feed and care for her local community. "This case was so close to my heart," remarks the lead attorney on the case Mark Bloom, "The Woods family are such good, kind folks who had their child ripped away from them. It was an absolute honor to work for them and make sure Woody was never forgotten." Through the Woods family's and BD&J's relentless pursuit of accountability, Woody continues to live on in his family's successes.
