SACRAMENTO ~ Today, Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis issued a proclamation declaring November 23, 2023, as Thanksgiving Day. The proclamation reflects on the precious bonds of family, friendship and community that unite and sustain us all. It also acknowledges the memory of those lost during the pandemic and celebrates the heroism and selflessness of people from all walks of life who have shown up for one another in countless ways over the last few years.

The proclamation also celebrates the diverse Native peoples who have called California home since time immemorial and recognizes their immeasurable contributions to our state and nation. It encourages Californians to take time to serve others through volunteerism today, an opportunity to give back to our fellow Californians as we count our many blessings.

In keeping with this spirit of generosity and community, Acting Governor Kounalakis has asked Californians to reflect on all that we have to give thanks for and rededicate ourselves to our shared commitment to one another in the spirit of inclusivity and fellowship.

The proclamation was signed by Acting Governor Kounalakis on November 22nd, 2023, with Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber attesting it.
