~ Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom has declared March 17, 2025 through March 23, 2025 as United States Navy Week in California. This proclamation comes as the state celebrates the Navy's 250th anniversary and recognizes the crucial role it plays in national defense.

With Naval Base San Diego as the primary homeport for the Pacific Fleet and over 48,000 active-duty Sailors, 7,000 Navy Reservists, and 64,000 retirees calling California home, the state has a strong connection to the Navy. In fact, California is responsible for $158.7 billion in annual exports that are safeguarded by the U.S. Navy.

Governor Newsom expressed his honor in having Sacramento selected as one of only 15 cities to host a Navy Week. He encourages all Californians to take this week to reflect on the important role that the U.S. Navy plays not only for California but also for global trade and security.

The proclamation reads: "NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim March 17-23, 2025 as 'United States Navy Week'."

This announcement comes on the heels of Governor Newsom's recent appointments on March 14th and March 13th. Janessa Goldbeck of San Diego has been appointed to the California Veterans Board while Andrew King of Sacramento has been named Deputy Director of Data Operations Strategy at the Office of Data and Innovation.

In addition to these appointments, Governor Newsom continues to support rebuilding and recovery efforts in Los Angeles with a $10 million contribution from the state. This funding will aid LA Rises in awarding $2.7 million to fire-impacted small businesses, nonprofits, and workers as they navigate their recovery and rebuilding process.

As California looks towards a brighter future with strong ties to our nation's defense through events like Navy Week, Governor Newsom remains committed to supporting the state's growth and recovery efforts.
