~ SACRAMENTO - In a recent announcement, Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that he has granted 16 pardons as part of multiple clemency actions. These individuals were recommended for clemency by various members of the community, including law enforcement officers, teachers, and elected officials.
According to the Governor's office, a clemency grant is given to recognize an individual's self-development and accountability after a conviction. The Governor takes into consideration several factors when reviewing clemency applications, such as the applicant's conduct since the offense, the impact on public safety, and the effect on the community and crime victims.
Since taking office, Governor Newsom has granted a total of 263 pardons, 160 commutations, and 42 reprieves. A pardon acknowledges an individual's rehabilitation after a conviction and can remove barriers to employment and public service while restoring civic rights and responsibilities.
The Governor's Office also encourages victims, survivors, and witnesses to register with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to receive information about an incarcerated person's status. For those seeking general information about victim services or wanting to register or update their registration confidentially, they can do so by clicking here or calling 1-877-256-6877 (toll-free).

In other news from Sacramento today, Governor Newsom issued a proclamation declaring November 11th as "Veterans Day." This day is dedicated to honoring those who have served in the U.S. military.
Meanwhile, in response to President Donald Trump's request for an emergency stay on a judge's ruling regarding SNAP food benefits funding, Governor Newsom is fighting back. The President's request would essentially leave many children without access to food benefits. In contrast, Governor Newsom is advocating for Californians' access to these essential resources.
Additionally, California and the City of Fresno have come to an agreement to address unsheltered homelessness on state right-of-ways within the city limits. This cooperative agreement aims to tackle this pressing issue and provide support for those in need.
As Governor Newsom continues to take action on various issues affecting Californians, his efforts are focused on promoting public safety and addressing the needs of the community.
