~ Sacramento - In response to the ongoing wildfires across California, Governor Gavin Newsom has issued an executive order to support fire response and recovery efforts. The order, signed today, includes provisions to expedite debris removal and cleanup in areas affected by the Thompson, Park, and Borel fires. It also aims to ensure adequate staffing for emergency response by waiving work hour limitations for retired annuitants.

Additionally, the executive order addresses concerns for local educational agencies by waiving requirements related to outdoor physical education during periods of poor air quality caused by the Airport, Bridge, and Line fires. A copy of the executive order can be found on the state's website.

The Governor had previously declared a state of emergency in Butte County due to the Thompson Fire; in Butte and Tehama counties due to the Park Fire; in Kern County due to the Borel Fire; in San Bernardino County due to the Line Fire; in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties due to the Bridge Fire; and in Orange and Riverside counties due to the Airport Fire.

Governor Newsom has been actively involved in monitoring and responding to these wildfires. He recently visited Incident Command Posts for the Park Fire, Borel Fire, and Line Fire where he met with first responders and assessed firefighting efforts.

To aid in suppression efforts, California has secured Fire Management Assistance Grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for all six of these fires. The Governor also requested a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration last month to further assist with recovery efforts in communities impacted by the Park and Borel fires.

In other news, California has launched a revamped version of its flagship portal CA.gov. This updated website makes it easier for residents to access hundreds of state services and programs such as CalFresh benefits, birth certificates, and business licenses.

Furthermore, Governor Newsom has awarded $131 million to 18 local communities with stricter accountability measures aimed at addressing homeless encampments. This funding will help provide support and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness in dangerous encampments. The Governor has emphasized the importance of holding local governments accountable in their efforts to address this issue.

As California continues to face challenges, Governor Newsom remains committed to taking swift and effective action to support the state's response and recovery efforts.
