~ Sacramento, CA- Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared July 2024 as "Disability Pride Month" in California. This proclamation, issued today, recognizes the contributions and diversity of individuals living with disabilities in the state.
The proclamation coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a major civil rights milestone signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life and has been instrumental in promoting inclusion and integration for people with disabilities.
California is home to over 7 million adults with disabilities and provides services to one in seven children with disabilities in schools. The state has been a leader in promoting accessibility and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Governor Newsom's administration is committed to expanding educational opportunities, employment options, health care access, civil rights, and community living for people of all ages with disabilities.

In his proclamation, Governor Newsom stated that "diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility are integral parts of our ongoing work to build a California for all."
