Phantom Jet Fighter Pilots Reveal the Highs and Lows of Surviving Air Combat During the Vietnam War

STUDIO CITY, Calif. - Californer -- Amid the Marine Corps birthday, Veteran's Day, and the forever-intriguing history of the Vietnam War, RAZ Productions is proud to announce the posthumous release of Phantom Phury: A Marine F-4J Phantom Squadron During the Viet Nam War by Rick O'Connor (Nov 10, 2026, Paperback $19.68, eBook $9.69).

O'Connor spent years gathering the memories and firsthand accounts of the pilots and Radar Intercept Officers who served beside him. Rick wrote the book to honor the Marines he considered his brothers, and to preserve the courage, sacrifice, camaraderie, humor, and remarkable bond they shared.

What's interesting is how current events are mimicking the stories in Phantom Phury. From understanding the recent jet plane crashes, to the Iran War without congressional approval, to losing young American lives, O'Connor's content is very apropos. Explains the editor, Ranee Alison Spina, "Jet Fighter Pilot and Author Rick O'Connor lived through the turbulence of Vietnam, and it was important to keep his voice–a 23-year-old learning to fly the most advanced, supersonic aircraft in the world."

O'Connor was immensely proud of being a Marine, but beneath the fighter-pilot swagger was a man who cared deeply about the people in his life. He passed away on August 6, 2026. It was his longtime dream to see Phantom Phury published and the story of VMFA-334 shared with the world. Although he did not live to hold the finished book in his hands, his family is honored to complete his final mission–to place these stories into the hands of readers and ensure the Marines he worked so hard to remember are remembered still.

A portion of the book's royalties are being donated to The 1st & Goal Project, Inc, a non-profit that supports veterans. The organization's Founder & CEO, ex-NFL Player Dave DesRochers (Seattle Seahawks), strongly believes, "Vietnam veterans have fascinating stories. Phantom Phury delivers a peek inside the squadron's personal and military challenges. Rick O'Connor leaves an important legacy of supporting veterans."
