HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Californer -- CounselingSchools.com is proud to announce Musashi Fujimura as the recipient of its second annual $2,500 scholarship!
Fujimura is currently pursuing a PhD in Counseling Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he is building on years of international humanitarian experience to explore the intersections of identity, stigma, and psychological well-being.

Bridging Humanitarian Experience and Mental Health Advocacy

"I have developed a personal understanding of how stigma, cultural expectations, and social marginalization can shape psychological well-being and the process of developing an authentic sense of self, particularly for individuals navigating the intersection of racial, ethnic, and sexual identities," Fujimura shared in his scholarship application.
Advancing Culturally Responsive Counseling
Fujimura chose Teachers College, Columbia University, for its combination of rigorous clinical training and opportunities to pursue research that aligns with his professional mission.
"Teachers College (TC), Columbia University's PhD in Counseling Psychology program is particularly well suited to my professional goals because it allows me to integrate rigorous clinical training with my longstanding research interests in advancing culturally responsive and identity-affirming approaches to mental health," he explained.
For Fujimura, one of the most meaningful aspects of his doctoral education has been learning to connect the broader social and institutional forces affecting individuals with the deeply personal dimensions of their psychological experiences.
