~ Governor Gavin Newsom of California traveled to Washington, D.C. this week to meet with senior officials from the Biden-Harris Administration and members of the California Congressional Delegation. During his meetings at the White House on Tuesday, Governor Newsom discussed top priorities for the state with President Joe Biden, senior White House officials, and key federal officials. Following his meeting with Counselor to the President Steve Ricchetti, Governor Newsom joined Ricchetti for a meeting with President Biden. The Governor also held a series of meetings on Capitol Hill on Wednesday with Biden-Harris Administration officials, Senator Alex Padilla, Senator-elect Adam Schiff, and members of the California congressional delegation.

During these meetings, Governor Newsom stressed the importance of securing approval for pending items with the Biden-Harris Administration. These included disaster funding requests, environmental protections, and programs that would expand access to health care and reduce homelessness in California.

Governor Newsom also reaffirmed his commitment to collaborate with President-elect Trump wherever there is common ground. He previewed California's upcoming special session and other preparations to proactively address potential federal challenges and legal actions.

As part of his series of meetings with senior Biden-Harris Administration officials, Governor Newsom met with Interior Secretary Deb Haaland on Thursday. They discussed efforts to improve water quality and fish habitat in California, as well as updates to the San Luis Dam and Reservoir project that would benefit two million people by bolstering water supplies.

Later in the day, Governor Newsom met with officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where he advocated for the approval of waivers that would improve Californians' ability to access quality health care and reduce homelessness in the state.

In a statement, Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of California's partnership with the Biden-Harris Administration in securing additional tools and resources to improve access to health care, clean air and water, and support communities recovering from disasters.
