LOS ANGELES - Californer -- As national conversations about democracy and civic participation continue across the country, LIGHTWORKERS director Bobby Roth appeared on MSNBC's Deadline: White House with Nicolle Wallace alongside Deadline.com's Executive Editor Dominic Patten to discuss the inspiration behind the upcoming documentary film.
Reflecting on the origins of the project, Roth shared:
"I was thinking about 'what can I do?' so I thought I would make a picture that would inspire people to stand up for democracy."
The conversation explored the challenges and importance of democratic participation in a divided time. Dominic Patten noted:
"Democracy is messy. We all think that we agree on something and then we discover the things we disagree on and then we discover the things we agree on."
Speaking about the individuals featured in the documentary, Roth explained:
"They are very sympathetic to how difficult it is for some people to act at all and so basically the movie asks you to do one thing."
