Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine to Offer a Variety of Recreation Classes This Summer

Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach residents of all ages can look forward to a summer filled with fun and learning as the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) opens registration for their wide range of recreation classes on Monday, May 5.

With over 700 activities to choose from, there is something for everyone in the community. From preschoolers to adults aged 50 and above, PRM offers classes in art, music, nature, fitness, special interests, sports leagues, aquatics and more.

For the little ones aged 2 to 4 years old, there are exciting options such as the Challenger International Sports Skills Camp and Preschool Cooking Thyme. The Hip Hop Tots Dance class is also available for children aged 2 to 5 years old.

Youth aged 7 to 13 years old can unleash their creativity at the Hollywood Special Effects Camp or challenge themselves with the Engineering Design Challenge using Lego® Materials. For those interested in sports, Skyhawks Basketball is open for children aged 7 to 10 years old.

Teens aged 11-15 years old can join the Summer Music Academy: Band and Orchestra or learn Drawing Fundamentals. Adults aged 16 and above can explore their artistic side with Oil Painting or get moving with Latin Rhythms Dance. For those looking for self-defense classes, Jujitsu: Japanese Self Defense is available for ages 13 and above.

Older adults aged 50 and above can stay active with Round Dance Intermediate and Advanced or Chair Based Yoga. Zumba® Gold Toning is also offered for those looking for a fun workout.

Registration for these classes can be done online at lbparks.org or by calling 562.570.3111. Residents can also visit the Registration Reservations Office at Studebaker Rd., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Classes will begin in June and continue through August. The Recreation Connection, PRM's program catalog, can be found at LBParks.org or at Long Beach park community centers and Long Beach Public Library branches starting May 5.
