LOS ANGELES, July 16, 2025 ~ In a historic move, Metro Transit Ambassadors in Los Angeles have officially ratified their first collective bargaining agreement, represented by Teamsters Local 986. The four-year agreement, which was voted on and approved by the ambassadors, includes a range of benefits such as comprehensive medical coverage, a pension plan, workplace protections, seniority rights, and additional paid leave.

The Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986, Chris Griswold, expressed his congratulations to the ambassadors on their achievement. He stated that the two-and-a-half-year battle for this contract was not an easy one, but the workers remained persistent in their efforts to secure the best possible agreement. Griswold also highlighted that this contract not only offers strong economic benefits but also provides job security to hundreds of workers by transitioning a pilot program into a permanent career opportunity.

Currently, there are 400 Teamsters working for private transportation contractors who provide services for the city. However, later this month they will be transitioned to working directly for the Los Angeles County Metro Transit Authority. This move marks a significant step towards ensuring better working conditions and benefits for these workers.

One of the Metro Transit Ambassadors, Kathleen Ceniceros, shared her excitement about being part of the Teamsters union. She stated that she had never been part of something that supports working people and having a union looking out for her and her co-workers is not only something she wanted but also needed.

Teamsters Local 986 has been proudly representing workers across the Western United States, Hawaii, and Guam since 1948.
