Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach's Department of Public Works is excited to announce the upcoming fall session of their Compost and Recycling Ambassador (CRA) Program. This seven-week program, which will be offered at no cost to residents ages 18 and older, aims to educate and train community members on waste reduction strategies, composting methods, and recycling practices.
The program will consist of seven required courses that will take place weekly from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from August 30th through October 4th at the Environmental Services Bureau located at 2929 E. Willow St. The final session on October 18th will also serve as a graduation class for participants who have completed at least six of the seven courses and completed 25 volunteer hours.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be certified as Compost and Recycling Ambassadors. As ambassadors, they will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between awareness and action by motivating friends, family, co-workers, peers, and community members to adopt sustainable behaviors. They will also help enhance the city's efforts in reaching more people through a network of passionate community members and educators.

Applications for the fall 2025 CRA Program will open on Monday, July 21st at 10 a.m. Due to limited space, community members are encouraged to apply early as spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals can apply online at lbcity.info/CRA25.
Since its inception in fall 2022, the CRA Program has trained over 100 Long Beach residents from all nine council districts who have collectively dedicated over 1,300 hours back to their community. Previously known as the Master Composter Recycler Program, this initiative aligns with the goals of the Long Beach Climate Action Plan (LB CAP) by promoting increased recycling in multifamily developments and encouraging urban agriculture practices to reduce air pollution.
