LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13, 2024 ~ Notre Dame Academy, a renowned Catholic school in Los Angeles, is celebrating 75 years of excellence in education this month. The school, which was founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame, has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a repurposed elementary library in 1949. Through devoted leadership and strategic innovation, Notre Dame Academy has evolved into a leading institution for young women in grades nine through 12.

Lilliam Paetzold '84, president and head of school, credits the success of Notre Dame Academy to the strong foundation laid by the Sisters and their commitment to providing a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of 21st-century students. "Our approach is rooted in timeless Catholic values and incorporates the most current and well-researched methods tailored to how girls learn, grow, and thrive," she said.

As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, Notre Dame Academy is expanding its all-girl education to include sixth grade students. This new Catholic middle school is the only one of its kind in west LA and offers seamless academic alignment with the high school. It also provides opportunities for mentorship and utilizes the city of Los Angeles as an extension of the classroom. With a full range of athletics and arts offerings, this middle school aims to provide a holistic educational experience for its students.

Paetzold emphasized that this expansion reflects their belief in the relevance of an all-girls education and the importance of creating girls-only spaces. "We are preparing young women to make an impact in their workplaces, industries, and communities by providing rigorous academics, intentional leadership training, and exposure to a wide range of career options," she said.

Community will be at the heart of Notre Dame Academy's anniversary events throughout the year. The festivities will kick off on September 14 with a family Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez followed by a barbeque. In October, NDA Day will be expanded to include all 6,500 alumnae who are invited to revisit their class themes, chants, and dances. Other events planned for the year include a Day of Service in March, a scholarship benefit gala in April, and Mary's Day in May.

According to Paetzold, these events not only honor the Sisters' enduring investment in Notre Dame Academy but also celebrate the broader community of students, families, faculty, and alumnae who consider NDA their second home. "Together we look forward to a bright future and continued growth over the next 75 years," she said.
