Updates on City of San José Services and/or Operations
- City Manager Update to Council: City Manager Dave Sykes presented an update to the City Council during Item 3.1 today, June 2, regarding the City's response to COVID-19. Dave and officials from the Emergency Operations Center discussed expanding coronavirus testing efforts, as well as recent activation of the City's cooling centers, preparation for wildfire season, and a digital inclusion update. The City Council Meeting is still live and can be watched on the City's YouTube Channel.
- Five San Jose Cooling Centers Open Tuesday-Wednesday, June 2-3: The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department will open five cooling centers to provide residents with a cool place to beat the heat projected for Tuesday-Wednesday, June 2-3. The cooling centers will operate from 1:00-7:00 p.m. on both days. Due to current COVID-19 County Health Orders, capacity will be limited. Residents who visit a cooling center must follow all county guidelines, including maintaining a physical distance of 6 feet from others, wearing a face covering, and staying home if they are sick. For the safety of staff and other cooling center visitors, a simple health screen will be performed. The screening consists of taking a visitor temperature with an infrared thermometer, and asking the following health questions: "Have you had a fever, dry cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing in the last two weeks?" To ensure access and maintain social distance guidelines, all large belongings, such as bicycles should remain outside. Service dogs are allowed indoors. San José community centers are vital assets that provide residents with a safe place during emergencies. For more information on how to stay cool, visit bit.ly/heatsafetytipsSCC. The cooling center locations are:
