~ The San José Fire Department is now recruiting Firefighter Paramedics (Lateral) for their 2023-02 Firefighter Academy, set to begin in August. Those interested in joining the San José Fire Department family have until April 18 to apply.
The department serves 1.2 million residents and is one of the busiest fire departments in the country. It is a full-service, all-hazard metropolitan fire department that serves the City of San José and unincorporated parts of Santa Clara County.
Eligible candidates can receive a hiring bonus of up to $10,000, which will be awarded as follows: $3,000 upon hire; $3,000 upon completion of six months (1,456 hours); and $4,000 upon passing probation (2,912 hours). Applicants must have a valid paramedic license, high school diploma or equivalent, and at least 12 months of paid, full-time employment as a sworn uniformed firefighter within the last 36 months.
