LOS ANGELES - Californer -- W.W. Mitchell, the author and screenwriter behind the upcoming novel and film adaptation The Legend of Sky City, has officially announced the novel's release date and the beginning of early pre-production on the feature film. The novel, inspired by Mitchell's award-winning screenplay, is set to launch on December 25th through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and major book retailers.
Described as a family-friendly post-apocalyptic epic, The Legend of Sky City explores the resilience of the human spirit in the face of corruption, despair, and environmental collapse. Set in a future where the Earth is completely flooded and survivors live aboard massive industrial arks, the story follows Ahmed, a ten-year-old boy who finds hope in the myth of a floating city in the sky.
"Stories should pull emotion from the audience or readers, and that's what I was doing with this," says Mitchell. "These complex characters endure starvation, brushes with death, loss, and corrupt leadership. It's realism living in a fully-fledged sci-fi world, and I think the audience will enjoy it as both a book and a film."

The novel weaves an intricate narrative, balancing multiple character arcs while keeping Ahmed's journey at the heart of the story. Mitchell's goal is to inspire audiences of all ages with what he calls "the most heartfelt story I've ever written." The Legend of Sky City is not just a tale of survival—it's a story of hope, courage, and the power of belief in a better future.
With the screenplay completed, Mitchell has brought on Alicia Nichols as Executive Producer, marking a significant step forward in the film's development.
"She's my number one pick for this film," Mitchell adds. "We're not chasing major stars—we want the heart of the film to shine. But if I had my dream cast, Michael Jai White would be perfect for the antagonist, and Halle Berry could summon the mother-like performance needed for the protagonist. This story has the depth to challenge and inspire any actor."
The Legend of Sky City is more than a film—it's a movement. With its emotionally rich storytelling, diverse cast of characters, and bold world-building, Mitchell is positioning the project as a new benchmark in independent science fiction cinema. The film aims to break through the noise of formulaic blockbusters and offer something truly meaningful to audiences.
