Insurance Spring Cleaning FAQs
Why do I need to spring clean my car insurance policies?
You may not realize that you have duplicate coverage, like a warranty from a car manufacturer as well as mechanical breakdown coverage on your car insurance policy. You don't really need both. In fact, you may be able to drop unnecessary coverage if your car is not worth much anymore. You may also want to exclude a teen driver to bring down rates. There are many reasons to review your policy.
How should I start a spring clean of my insurance policies?
Gather all insurance documents and separate them according to insurance type. Read your declaration pages to see what coverage and limits you have and at what price. Decide if you need those coverages or if you need to buy more based on life changes and changes to your car or home. Contact your agent and report changes and see what your new rates are. Shop and compare insurance rates for each type of policy to see if other insurers will offer you a better deal.

Why should I review health insurance outside of open enrollment?
If your employer's health insurance open enrollment is outside the usual open enrollment period (often, this is the case) and you do not elect to continue buying coverage through work, you are eligible to buy a marketplace plan, which may be more affordable. You may also be eligible to change plans outside the open enrollment period if you had a baby, adopted a baby, lost a job or started a new one but didn't take their health insurance benefits. Getting married or divorced are both qualifying factors to buy a new policy.
