BURLINGAME, Calif. - Californer -- Alten Construction (https://www.altenconstruction.com/), a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently began the installation of the structural steel component of the project after completing foundation work for Burlingame Intermediate School (https://bi-bsd-ca.schoolloop.com/)'s Student Recreation Center (SRC) and quad.
The scope of the 14,500-square-foot project includes a new gymnasium, offices, classrooms, solar installation, courtyard modernization and landscaping. The new gymnasium will feature folding glass partitions to allow accessibility and versatility of the space, and the courtyard will boast site furnishing and shade structures to allow for increased outdoor student activity. Efficient equipment and infrastructure for the building are also being included.

"Our new, community-focused SRC will be inclusive of all students' interests and abilities," said Tim Ryan, facilities and bond coordinator for Burlingame School District. "The gathering spaces will inspire with natural light and ventilation and offer connection to the rest of the campus. We can't wait to share the finished project with the greater Burlingame community."
The $15.5 million project started in June 2021 and consists of two phases. Phase two started in October 2021 and is expected to wrap up in 2023. During the entire duration of the project, the campus has remained active.
Located at 1715 Quesada Way in Burlingame, the school currently enrolls over 1,100 students in grades sixth through eighth.
