~ Sacramento - Governor Gavin Newsom has announced several new appointments to key positions within the California government. These appointments, made on August 12, 2025, aim to strengthen the state's efforts in areas such as data exchange, long-term care, and behavioral health services.

John Ohanian of Vacaville has been appointed as the Policy Advisor for Data Exchange at the California Department of Health Care Services. Ohanian brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served as the Chief Data Officer and Director at the Center for Data Insights at the California Health and Human Services Agency since 2020. He also has a strong background in community service, having been President and Chief Executive Officer of 211 San Diego and Community Information Exchange from 2007 to 2020. Ohanian's previous roles include Vice President of Finance, Operations and Planned Giving for the Alzheimer's Association, San Diego Chapter and Associate Director and Consultant at the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of San Diego.

Fay Gordon from Alameda has been appointed as the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman at the California Department of Aging. Gordon's extensive experience in healthcare law makes her well-suited for this role. She previously served as Region IX Regional Administrator at the Administration for Community Living at the United States Department of Health and Human Services from 2020 to 2025. Gordon also held positions as Program Director at the National Center on Law and Elder Rights and Health Care Attorney at Justice in Aging. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and World Arts and Cultures from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Tumboura Hill from Modesto has been appointed to serve on the Behavioral Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. Hill brings a diverse range of experiences to this position, having worked as the Director of Compliance and Operations at Strive University since 2024. He also served as Cal AIM Business Services Director at St. Mary's Community Services and held various roles at Valley Mountain Regional Center, including Program Evaluator for Home and Community Based Services, Senior Community Services Liaison, and Community Services Liaison. Hill's previous experience also includes working as a Special Day Class Teacher at Stockton Unified School District and a Special Day Class Teaching Assistant at California Youth Authority. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Stanislaus.

These appointments do not require Senate confirmation, and the compensation for each position varies. Ohanian, Gordon, and Hill are all Democrats.
