~ Governor Gavin Newsom has taken swift action to support the ongoing response and recovery efforts for the Mountain Fire in Ventura County. On November 8, 2024, he signed an executive order that includes provisions to expedite debris removal and cleanup, authorize state agencies to quickly procure resources, and allow for the mobilization of the California National Guard.
The executive order also suspends various legal and procedural requirements to facilitate a rapid response and recovery. This includes contracting and bidding laws, waiting periods for unemployment benefits, fees for replacing lost documents, and licensing requirements for health and social services facilities. The order also allows for waivers to support schools, health facilities, and care providers impacted by the fire.
In a statement, Governor Newsom emphasized that the top priority is protecting the health, safety, and well-being of all those affected by the Mountain Fire. He stated that this executive order will empower the state to continue taking swift action and cut through red tape in order to aid impacted communities.
