~ Governor Gavin Newsom has taken proactive measures to prepare for potential fire hazards in Imperial and San Bernardino counties. In response to extreme weather conditions forecasted for Thursday, October 9 through Saturday, October 11, 2025, the governor has approved the prepositioning of fire and rescue resources in these areas.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Priscilla are expected to bring rainfall and impact Southern California. To minimize potential impacts, Governor Newsom has ensured that resources are ready to respond quickly. This includes a total of four fire engines, one handcrew, one dispatcher, one loader and one bulldozer, and an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) with two support personnel.

Local fire agencies are also taking necessary precautions by identifying conditions in communities that may require additional resources. They can submit requests to the state for support as needed. The staging locations and response assignments will be coordinated by local officials.

During this heightened precipitation and extreme weather period, residents are urged to stay vigilant. Governor Newsom reminds Californians to have a wildfire action plan in place, including planning evacuation routes and packing a go-bag with essentials. It is also important to sign up for local emergency alerts to stay informed about changing conditions and review family emergency plans while checking on neighbors.

This legislation helps ensure that individuals in crisis can receive timely treatment, housing, and ongoing support by improving coordination across courts and local agencies.

Additionally, the governor continues to make progress on housing reforms by signing legislation aimed at boosting affordability for California families. This follows the monumental housing progress made earlier this year.

On World Mental Health Day, Governor Newsom signed AB 727 into law which makes mental health resources more accessible to LGBTQ youth. This bill requires student ID cards in public schools to include crisis and suicide prevention support resources for LGBTQ students.

Governor Newsom remains committed to addressing important issues such as fire safety, housing affordability, and mental health resources for all Californians.
