~ Governor Gavin Newsom has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of Californians ahead of anticipated demonstrations this weekend. The Governor has ordered the pre-deployment of safety and security resources across the state to support local law enforcement in protecting the public.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) will be providing resources to aid local governments in maintaining safety during peaceful demonstrations. This includes enforcing laws against property destruction, vandalism, and looting.

In a statement, Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of respecting and protecting citizens' First Amendment rights while also maintaining public safety. He stated, "In the United States, the office of citizen is the most important office we can hold." He also made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for those who plan to use peaceful demonstrations as an opportunity for violence.

All eight of CHP's Special Response Teams have been activated and are stationed throughout California, with a surge of nearly 700 officers. The CHP's Southern Division is also on tactical alert, ensuring that all available uniformed employees are prepared for any potential situations. The CHP is working closely with local law enforcement partners and Cal OES to coordinate their efforts.

CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee reiterated their commitment to upholding citizens' rights while also enforcing the law. He stated, "Our officers stand ready to ensure these rights are exercised safely and lawfully." He also warned that swift action will be taken against anyone who attempts to violate others' rights or cause harm.

Cal OES has also been working with state and local partners to ensure that communities have the necessary resources to keep people safe during demonstrations. At this time, they have not received significant requests for mutual aid from local governments but remain in close communication and ready to assist if needed.

Governor Newsom reminded Californians that they have a right to speak out but must do so peacefully. He stated, "Those who engage in protests and demonstrations must always emphasize partnership, unity, and non-violence." This comes after recent reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services shared Medicaid beneficiary information with the Department of Homeland Security, which Governor Newsom condemned as a dangerous violation of privacy.

In another victory for Californians, Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta secured an emergency restraining order blocking President Trump's attempt to militarize Los Angeles. This was supported by high-ranking U.S. military officials who filed an amicus brief in support of the Governor's motion, stating that Trump's actions were illegal.

As the weekend approaches, Governor Newsom urges all citizens to remain peaceful and never resort to violence. He reassures Californians that their rights will be protected while also maintaining public safety.
