~ Sacramento - Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared January 30, 2026 through February 6, 2026 as CalEITC Awareness Week. This proclamation aims to bring attention to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and its effectiveness in lifting working families and their children out of poverty.
The EITC is a crucial tool in providing immediate financial support to families in need, while also improving child and maternal health and educational outcomes. In California, the state has taken further steps by creating its own California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and promoting more equitable access to it. Along with the Young Child Tax Credit and Foster Youth Tax Credit, these programs have put $1.4 billion back into the pockets of nearly 3.5 million California filers.
Governor Newsom is committed to reaching all eligible hardworking families in order to set up future generations for success. He encourages all Californians to check if they qualify for these important supports by visiting ftb.ca.gov/caleitc.

In his proclamation, Governor Newsom states, "Our state is committed to reaching all the hardworking families eligible for these important supports to help set our kids – California's future – up for success." He also urges Californians to take advantage of these programs and resources.
This announcement comes on the heels of another recent proclamation made by Governor Newsom on January 30, 2026 declaring Fred Korematsu Day. The governor recognizes Korematsu as a civil rights hero who fought against Japanese American internment during World War II.
In addition, Governor Newsom announced appointments on January 29, 2026 including Meghan Hertel as Director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The partnership between California and Mexico military departments was also strengthened with a visit to Sacramento on January 30, 2026. Military leaders from both regions joined efforts in sharing expertise and protecting their respective regions.
As Governor Newsom continues to make strides in improving the lives of Californians, his recent proclamations and appointments demonstrate his dedication to creating a better future for all.
