~ Sacramento, California - On September 11, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom declared Patriot Day in the State of California through a proclamation issued today. This day marks the 24th anniversary of the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001.

The proclamation, which can be found below, pays tribute to the lives lost and the heroism displayed by first responders and civilians during the attacks. It also honors those who have answered the call to defend their fellow Americans and protect our freedoms.

In remembrance of this somber day, Governor Newsom has ordered all flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff. He urges Californians to reflect on the American heroes we have lost and recommit to upholding our fundamental values.

The full text of the proclamation reads:

"PROCLAMATION

On this 11th day of September, 24 years ago, nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children were taken from their families and from us. The acts of terror on that day were meant to break the spirit of our nation and undermine the faith of Americans and the world in this country and all that we stand for. But even amidst these horrific attacks, we saw countless instances of selflessness and bravery - first responders running into flames and strangers stepping up to help one another.

On Patriot Day, we remember and honor the lives lost in this tragedy and the heroism of all those who rushed into harm's way to help others. Today, we also pay tribute to the selfless individuals who answered the call to defend their fellow Americans - unified in grief and an unshakeable resolve to protect our freedoms and way of life.

In honor of this day of remembrance, I have ordered all flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff. As we look back on this somber chapter in our history, let us pay tribute to the American heroes we have lost and recommit to protecting and preserving the fundamental American values that remain strong even 24 years after this attack.

NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2025 as Patriot Day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 9th day of September 2025.

GAVIN NEWSOM

Governor of California

This proclamation comes on the heels of other recent news from Governor Newsom's office. On September 10, he announced appointments to various positions within the state government, including Vishesh Anand as Senior Advisor at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.

In addition, Governor Newsom issued a statement on the murder of conservative thought leader and activist Charlie Kirk. He expressed grief and outrage at the violence that took place in Utah and called for unity in condemning such acts.

Furthermore, Governor Newsom and legislative leaders have reached a major deal to save money on electric bills, stabilize the gas market, and cut pollution. This legislation aims to bring down electricity costs while also addressing environmental concerns.

As Californians reflect on Patriot Day this year, they are reminded not only of the tragedy that occurred but also of the resilience and bravery displayed by Americans in its aftermath.
