~ Sacramento, California - In a recent announcement by the Trump administration, nearly $200 million in federal grants to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have been frozen. These grants were being used for critical science and health research, including studies on invasive diseases, cancer cures, and defense technologies.
Governor Gavin Newsom has expressed his concern over this decision, stating that it makes the country less safe. He believes that using Jewish students' concerns about Antisemitism on campus as an excuse to cut funding is a cruel manipulation tactic. The governor also criticized President Trump for not caring about students or Americans who do not align with his political beliefs.
UCLA, which has been consistently ranked as the #1 Public University in America by U.S. News & World Report, will be greatly impacted by this freeze in funding. The grants were provided through various agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

In response to this news, Governor Newsom issued a statement condemning President Trump's economic policies as a failure. He believes that American families will ultimately pay the price for these failures.
Meanwhile, in another recent development involving President Trump's actions, there has been a significant decrease in fentanyl pounds seized by National Guard soldiers who were unlawfully federalized by the president. Between May and June alone, there was a 57% drop in fentanyl pounds seized from these soldiers who were pulled from their original mission to await new orders in the Los Angeles area.
This power grab by President Trump has resulted in chaos and inefficiency within law enforcement agencies. Governor Newsom has called out this unlawful action and its negative impact on public safety.
On a more positive note, 130 new California Highway Patrol officers were sworn in today after successfully completing an intense 26-week training program. Governor Newsom congratulated these cadets and welcomed them into the state's law enforcement family.
As the state continues to navigate through these challenging times, Governor Newsom remains committed to protecting the safety and well-being of all Californians. He urges President Trump to reconsider his decisions and prioritize the needs of the people over political agendas.
