ENCINITAS, Calif. - Californer -- Encinitas, CA – Local children's book author and animal advocate Kathleen Kastner releases Karma Cats Puppy Quest, the fourth book in her Karma Cats series, to promote pet microchipping and helping lost pets. Aimed at young readers, this heartwarming story follows superhero cat brothers Julian and Oliver as they team up to rescue a lost puppy, Jersey, and a frightened cat, Suki. The book emphasizes kindness, teamwork, and the importance of microchipping to reunite lost pets with their families. Priced at $18.95, it's available on Amazon and at www.kathleenkastner.com.
With approximately 6.3 million dogs and cats entering U.S. shelters annually and euthanasia rates at about 607,000 in 2024, microchipping is a simple solution to help lost pets return home. Kastner, a volunteer at Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas, highlights their $25 microchipping service, which includes registration. They also have a microchip scanner at their front gate available to the public to use 24/7 if they find a lost pet.
