Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is seeking funding through the State of California's Proposition 1 Bond Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) Round 1 to improve behavioral health services for individuals experiencing homelessness. In order to gather input from the community, the City will be hosting a virtual meeting on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 at 2 p.m. via Zoom.
The proposed projects, if awarded funding, will include the construction of an Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) center at the Multi-Service Center (MSC) and Community Residential Treatment System (CRTS) beds at the 702 Shelter. These facilities aim to address immediate gaps in Long Beach's behavioral health infrastructure and provide access to life-saving treatment for those struggling with opioid dependency.
The OBOT facility will offer medication-assisted treatment services, harm reduction strategies, and case management support. By integrating these resources with the MSC's existing services, individuals dealing with opioid dependency will have access to comprehensive care in one convenient location.

The CRTS beds will serve as a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have been discharged from hospitals or crisis units and require additional stabilization before transitioning to permanent housing or long-term care options. This project aims to reduce hospital readmissions and support smoother transitions for some of Long Beach's most vulnerable residents.
Residents, stakeholders, and service providers are encouraged to attend the virtual community meeting to ask questions, provide feedback, and learn more about the proposed projects and the City's BHCIP application process. Pre-registration is required for attendance and interpretation services will be provided in Spanish, Khmer, and Tagalog.
For those interested in more information about the funding opportunity and proposed projects, a comprehensive memo has been released by the City outlining the Proposition 1 BHCIP Round 1 application process and project details. This memo provides a deeper understanding of the City's goals and strategies for addressing behavioral health needs through this funding. The City plans to submit its final application for these projects by December 13, 2024.
