~ Sacramento, California - In a move to recognize and celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities, Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis has declared July 2025 as Disability Pride Month. The proclamation was issued today and highlights the diversity and strength that individuals with disabilities bring to the state.
The text of the proclamation reads, "California joins communities around the nation in recognizing July as Disability Pride Month, an opportunity to celebrate the many ways that people living with disabilities – whether visible or invisible, mobility or cognitive, vision or hearing, learning or sensory, developmental or acquired – add to the diversity and strength of our state."
This month holds special significance as it marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a major civil rights milestone signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life and has played a pivotal role in promoting their inclusion and integration in society.

This funding will help address the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In addition, Governor Newsom has directed the deployment of a CAL FIRE Type 3 engine strike team to assist firefighting efforts in southern Oregon as wildfire conditions intensify across the Pacific Northwest. The deployment includes five fire engines and a support vehicle.
Furthermore, in an effort to jumpstart critical rebuilding efforts after the recent fires in Los Angeles, Governor Newsom has committed $101 million to support the development of affordable multifamily rental housing. This funding will prioritize the needs of displaced residents in the fire-devastated regions.
