~ Governor Newsom Stands Against Trump Administration's Rollback of Clean Air Protections

In response to the latest actions by the Trump administration to dismantle core climate protections and deny scientific research, Governor Gavin Newsom has taken a stand. As the U.S. EPA announced plans to roll back emissions standards for cars and trucks and shut down a key scientific research office, Governor Newsom issued a statement with Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, reaffirming their commitment to protecting public health and the truth about the climate crisis.

"Americans deserve the truth from their federal government about the climate crisis," said Governor Newsom. "No amount of burying research or firing scientists will change the facts: Greenhouse gas pollution causes climate change and endangers our health and welfare – period."

As Co-Chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance, Governor Newsom has been a vocal advocate for addressing climate change and protecting against harmful pollutants like methane. Earlier this year, California launched a satellite project to detect and reduce dangerous methane leaks.

The state's efforts have not gone unnoticed, as California continues to lead in clean energy initiatives. Despite a 78% increase in GDP since 2000, greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 20%. In 2023, California was powered by two-thirds clean energy – making it the largest economy in the world to achieve this level of clean energy.

Under Governor Newsom's leadership, battery storage has increased by over 1,900% with over 15,000 megawatts added since the beginning of his administration. Additionally, over 25,000 megawatts of new resources have been added to the electric grid.

In recent news, Governor Newsom announced that his promises on public safety are being kept with over 22,000 arrests made for organized retail theft resulting in nearly 17,100 cases referred for prosecution. He also signed legislation aimed at improving highway safety and regulating mobilehome parks.

The governor also expressed his condolences on the passing of philanthropist Wallis Annenberg, praising her as a visionary who believed in a kinder world and worked towards creating a better society.

As the Trump administration continues to deny science and roll back crucial environmental protections, Governor Newsom remains steadfast in his commitment to protecting the health and well-being of Californians and fighting against climate change.
