Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - As the holiday season approaches, the City of Long Beach is calling on its community to spread joy and support those in need through their Season of Giving donation drive. The donations received will go towards providing essential items for people experiencing homelessness during the winter months.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his gratitude for the generosity of the community, stating that these donations are a lifeline for those in need and the organizations that serve them. He also emphasized that a simple act of kindness can have a lasting impact.
To encourage physical donations, the City will be hosting a donation drive-thru event on Saturday, December 7th from 9am to 1pm at the Department of Health and Human Services Main Facilities Center. The City is specifically requesting cold weather items such as sweatshirts, pants, coats, socks, blankets, umbrellas and shoes. Holiday themed gifts are also welcomed.
In addition to these items, the City has provided a list of other essential items that can be donated including hygiene kits or house-warming gift kits from the Multi-Service Center Amazon Wish List, backpacks filled with hand warmers and other necessities, pet care kits with food and supplies for pets, and welcome home kits with encouraging messages.

All physical donations received will be distributed at the Multi-Service Center (MSC) to people experiencing homelessness and will also be available to local partner organizations for distribution through their existing outreach methods. While gift cards will not be accepted at drive-thru events, they can be donated at the MSC by scheduling a drop-off time.
For those unable to attend the drive-thru event, physical donations can also be dropped off at all open Long Beach Public Library locations during regular business hours. Other drop-off locations include Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach and Scherer Park Community Center.
Monetary donations are also being accepted through the Mayor's Fund for Homeless Action (Mayor's Fund), which is administered by the Long Beach Community Foundation and overseen by the Homeless Services Advisory Committee. These donations are tax-deductible and can be made by credit card or check through the Mayor's Fund webpage.
The City reminds donors to consult with their tax professional regarding the tax deductibility of their donations. Receipts for donations are available at all drop-off locations.
The Season of Giving donation drive is a great opportunity for the community to come together and make a positive impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. With the support of its residents, businesses, and community organizations, the City hopes to make this holiday season a little brighter for those in need.
