LOS ANGELES - Californer -- GovComm wrong-way video detection systems are typically installed on highway exit ramps for the purpose of warning drivers traveling in a direction counter to one-way traffic flow by activating highlighted flashing wrong-way warning signs so that the driver can take corrective action.  The system also provides time-sensitive written and image notifications to local traffic management centers and law enforcement using network and cellular communications.

To improve detection accuracy, GovComm engineers developed a calibration tool called the Detection Optimizer^TM which controls detection logic at high frame rates and in real-time.   After detection zones and expected direction of travel are configured, system tools examine live vehicle direction and velocity.  The Detection Optimizer^TM is then configured to define a wrong-way event by the minimum number of consecutive frames that a vehicle is observed traveling in the wrong direction, the minimum distance (measured in pixels) between frames and the minimum total distance.  When the Detection Optimizer^TM is properly configured for forward and rear facing detection zones, the system provides a Six Sigma level of detection accuracy.
