State leaders agree: Governor Newsom's signature on federal immigration enforcement bills protects Californians
What you need to know: Governor Newsom signed 21 bills earlier today cementing California's longstanding efforts to support immigrant communities and reflecting on the state's response to an intensified federal immigration enforcement environment.
SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday signed a package of bills related to federal immigration enforcement in California. This action builds on years of work by Governor Newsom and the Legislature to support immigrant families, protect communities and the economy from reckless immigration actions, strengthen transparency and oversight of detention facilities, and ensure that state resources are focused on public safety and the needs of Californians.
Here's what leaders are saying about the Governor's latest action to expand oversight of federal immigration enforcement in California:
Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay): "Unchecked power and too little accountability from ICE agents, private police and imposters are harming our neighbors, families, and friends. False arrests and excessive or deadly force should never be accepted as the norm. AB 2393 allows the people to fight back by seeking damages when harm has occurred.
