The program is open to students ages 18 to 30 enrolled in community college or university programs in urban planning, architecture or related fields. Priority will be given to Long Beach residents and students from low-income or underserved communities.
The city will hold a virtual information session on Oct. 7, 2026, from 4 to 5 p.m. Further eligibility details and application information are available on the program webpage.
Mayor Rex Richardson said the initiative gives young people an opportunity to contribute ideas and learn how planning and design can help communities. Economic Development and Opportunity Director Bo Martinez said the program builds on the first two cohorts and connects young people with careers that can shape the city's future.
The first two cohorts supported 20 emerging professionals, whose work contributed to major city planning efforts. Several graduates have since moved into full-time roles in planning, design, civic engagement and public service.
