~ SACRAMENTO - In a proclamation issued today, Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a statewide general election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This announcement comes in accordance with California law, specifically section 12000 of the Elections Code.
The proclamation, which can be viewed in its entirety on the Governor's website, states that candidates for various state offices will be presented to voters during this election. These offices include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and members of the State Board of Equalization from each of the four equalization districts.
In addition to these positions, representatives to the United States Congress from each of California's 52 congressional districts will also be on the ballot. State Senators from even-numbered districts and members of the Assembly from all 80 assembly districts will also be up for election. The proclamation also notes that any other state, county, judicial or other officers required by law will also be filled during this election.

Furthermore, the Governor has ordered that proposed constitutional amendments and other questions and propositions required by California's Constitution and laws will also be submitted to voters during this election.
This announcement comes on the heels of recent news that California leads the nation in job creation. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, California added approximately 131,534 jobs over the past year - more than any other state in the country.
Governor Newsom has been actively promoting California's economic success and innovation. Just last week he visited Long Beach - a hub for aerospace and space technology companies - to highlight California's dominance in these industries. The state is home to one-third of the nation's space technology companies.
In addition to economic success, Governor Newsom has also been focused on improving water resilience and supply for Californians. The Delta Conveyance Project recently received critical federal clearance under the Endangered Species Act. This project aims to improve water supply for millions of Californians.
As the 2026 general election approaches, Governor Newsom's proclamation serves as a reminder for Californians to exercise their right to vote and have a say in the future of their state.
