LOS ANGELES - Californer -- California's unemployment rate continues to drop, according to the Employment Development Department (EDD). In July, the unemployment rate at 7.6 percent is about half of the 14.1 percent rate last year but is still 3.7 percent above the 3.9 percent pre-pandemic level seen in February 2020.
As unemployment rates drop, job seekers will continue to navigate a "buyer's market" that gives them room to negotiate higher salaries and more generous compensation packages.
"California's unemployment rate of 7.6 percent is higher than the national unemployment rate of 6 percent. As it continues to drop, it provides more opportunities for California job seekers to find new employment" says Mandy Fard, professional resume writer and owner of Market-Connections Professional Resume Writing Services. "I have had two clients in the last month who were able to negotiate starting salaries 20 percent higher than their previous roles due to demand for their skills."
