As we prepare to enjoy a long Memorial Day weekend, let's remember the reason for this important holiday: to honor and remember our fallen service members. Long Beach has a proud military history, especially with the Navy, and we're grateful for this opportunity to honor those that have died in service to our country.
More on The Californer
More than 1.3 million Americans have died in military service to our nation. Their courage and sacrifices have helped to protect the rights and freedoms we take for granted, and we owe them our gratitude and eternal respect.
As we enjoy the beautiful weekend ahead and spend time with our friends and loved ones, I encourage you to also keep the spirit of Memorial Day in mind and hold these brave service members, and their families, in your thoughts.
Thank you,
Mayor Robert Garcia
