Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) is inviting the local community to share their ideas and feedback for the reimagining of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Garden. The Community Feedback Meeting will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library located at 5870 Atlantic Ave.
The garden, originally designed as a welcoming green space for learning, reflection, and community connection, has been a beloved feature of the neighborhood for many years. However, in order to better serve the needs of the community, LBPL has decided to revitalize and update the garden with an engaging and interactive green space.
At the Community Feedback Meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to share their input and ideas on how to enhance sustainability, increase accessibility, and create spaces that foster learning and community connection within the garden. Interactive planning boards will be available for review and participants can also take part in a hands-on Design Your Own Garden activity while enjoying light refreshments.

The feedback gathered at this meeting will play a crucial role in shaping the updated garden space. The implementation phase of the project is set to begin in June 2025 after a garden cleanup in May 2025. The full completion of the project is expected by September 2025, which will be celebrated with a community event.
For more information about this project, residents can call 562.570.7500 or email lbpl@longbeach.gov. Media inquiries can be directed to Maurina Cintron at maurina.cintron@longbeach.gov.
LBPL is looking forward to hearing from local residents, library patrons, garden enthusiasts, and all other members of the community at this important meeting. Together, they hope to create a revitalized garden space that truly reflects the needs and desires of Long Beach residents.
