Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is gearing up for the 41st Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025. This event, organized by the City's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM), aims to bring the community together to make a positive impact on the local environment.

Residents are encouraged to join this annual effort in keeping the city's beaches and marinas clean and free of trash. By doing so, they will not only help protect these valuable coastal spaces but also create a healthier environment for both local communities and wildlife.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for this event, stating that "small actions can make lasting positive environmental impacts." He invites everyone to join in on this initiative and work together towards making Long Beach's iconic shoreline an even cleaner and safer space for all to enjoy.

The El Dorado East Regional Park and Nature Center will be coordinating five cleanups from 9 a.m. to noon at various locations including Junipero Beach, Belmont Pier, Peninsula, Mother's Beach, and Alamitos Bay Marina. These cleanups are in collaboration with the California Coastal Commission.

Volunteers will be provided with gloves and trash bags at each site. However, they are encouraged to bring their own reusable supplies such as work gloves, buckets, and grabbers to limit waste. Those interested in participating can pre-register online through the Coastal Commission's website or register in-person on the day of the event. Parking will be free for volunteers in the nearest beach lot during the cleanup.

The cleanup sites will be staffed by employees and volunteers from El Dorado Nature Center along with local partners such as Los Angeles Waterkeeper, Aquarium of the Pacific, Algalita, and Seal Beach Yacht Club.

Last year's cleanup saw over 1,600 volunteers from Long Beach remove more than 1,900 pounds of debris in just three hours. This year, the City aims to increase the number of participants and provide educational materials to raise awareness about marine debris issues and inspire environmental stewardship within the community.
