National events have created a conversation around disparities in healthcare and research and also shines a light on the disparities faced by many people living with metastatic breast cancer. METAvivor is hosting a virtual conference on September 24 and 25 to address these issues.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Californer -- METAvivor Research and Support, Inc. announces an engagement conference to help those in the healthcare setting, research and within the patient community to share information about health disparities in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and to bring healthcare providers, researchers, patients and caregivers together to discuss and develop actionable strategies to overcome these disparities in MBC. The conference will feature thought leaders in the metastatic breast cancer community and will have a unique roundtable discussion to develop key tasks that will lead toward the goal of eliminating disparities.
According to Jamil Rivers, president of METAvivor "We are excited to host this powerful virtual conference that will allow us to leave with actionable strategies to overcome disparities in metastatic breast cancer. We are so thankful to our title sponsor, Astrazenaca and our platinum sponsors Eisai Global and Lilly Oncology for recognizing the importance of this topic and helping METAvivor make this conference a reality."

About Metastatic Breast Cancer
Metastatic breast cancer also known as stage IV or advanced breast cancer, occurs when the cancer has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. This usually includes the lungs, liver, bones or brain. 115 women and men die each day from metastatic breast cancer. There is no cure for metastatic breast cancer. Although there are treatments and therapies for those living with the disease the median life span remains 33 months.
Racial Disparities in Breast Cancer
The overall rate of breast cancer is similar for black and white women, although black women are 42 percent more likely to die from the disease. Other disparities for black women compared with white women include a higher rate of breast cancer before age 40, a greater likelihood of being diagnosed at a late stage and an increased risk of having triple-negative breast cancer, which tends to be more aggressive.
