LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8, 2024 ~ In a recent survey conducted by Wired Research, in collaboration with the Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit (LA ART), it was revealed that traffic has a significant impact on the enjoyment and opinions of attending live events. The survey, which included 1,012 nationally representative Americans ages 18 and over, aimed to discover the effects of traffic on event attendance.
One of the most surprising findings was that despite high ticket prices for popular events such as the World Series games or Taylor Swift's Eras tour, 80 percent of Americans admitted to leaving events early in order to avoid the stress and frustration of navigating through traffic. This often resulted in missing out on important moments such as an encore song or a game-winning run. Of those who left early, one in three expressed regret and felt like they had missed out on the full event experience. Additionally, 22 percent felt like they did not get their money's worth.
The survey also revealed that millions of Americans (74 percent) would attend events more frequently if they knew they wouldn't have to deal with a traffic nightmare before or after the event. This highlights the significant impact that traffic has on people's decision to attend live events.

David Grannis, Executive Director of Zero Emissions Transit, a non-profit organization leading the effort to bring an aerial gondola system to Los Angeles, commented on these findings saying, "Based on our findings and our own shared experiences, we know that traffic is one of the biggest frustrations people face when it comes to attending events." He added that this is one of the reasons why they are excited about bringing a solution to Los Angeles with their proposed aerial gondola system.
The survey also found that almost all Americans (95 percent) have attended a live event at least once in their lives. However, getting there is often a challenge as 83 percent reported driving as their primary mode of transportation. As expected, sitting in traffic on the way to the event and while waiting to enter the venue's parking lot was a common frustration for 95 percent of attendees. This often takes away from the joy of the occasion for about three-quarters of eventgoers.
Aside from traffic, another concern for event attendees is the impact on the environment. The survey revealed that 44 percent of Americans are worried about the number of cars on the road traveling to and from events and its effect on the environment.

In response to these concerns, LA ART has proposed a solution in the form of an aerial gondola system connecting Los Angeles Union Station to Dodger Stadium. The seven-minute ride will be free for ticketholders and aims to reduce emissions by taking 3,000 cars off the road on Dodgers game days. The project is expected to begin construction in 2026 and will be completed before the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The LA ART gondola system offers an alternative mode of transportation in Los Angeles that will help alleviate traffic and benefit the environment. For more information about this project, please visit laart.la.
Overall, this survey highlights the significant impact that traffic has on people's enjoyment and attendance at live events. With LA ART's proposed gondola system, it is hoped that these frustrations will be reduced, making it easier for people to attend events without worrying about traffic or its negative impact on the environment.
