Political concerns are driving 94.3% of US investors considering a second residency or citizenship, according to La Vida's 2026 US investor survey.
LONDON - Californer -- Political concerns are driving 94.3% of US investors considering a second residency or citizenship, according to La Vida's 2026 US investor survey. Interest in a second residency is now about security, stability and plan B options for US high net worth investors.
Who Took Part
La Vida invited over 5000 wealthy US investors to participate in a survey to find what is driving their interest in Golden Visa programs and residency options abroad. The average net wealth of respondents was in excess of $8 million.
Every respondent had previously enquired with La Vida about residency or citizenship by investment. Hence the results reflected people actively exploring their options. 97% held US citizenship and 94% live in the US. California was the most common home state, followed by Florida and Texas.

Crime and security concerned 25.7% of respondents, down from 33.3% in La Vida's 2025 US survey. Taxation concerned 22.9% and education 11.4%.

"Our US clients are looking abroad for very different reasons to those from the UK," said Paul Williams, CEO of La Vida Golden Visas. "Tax concerns are driving the British market, while politics, healthcare and cost of living are driving the US."
La Vida surveyed US citizens and residents between 8th and 18th October 2026. Full details of the survey are available on La Vida's website.
