PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Californer -- The Queen Palm International Film Festival (QPIFF) announced today the showcase of new independent short & feature films selected across 50 categories for the 2020 First Quarter Winter Screening and Premiere Event. QPIFF will host the screenings in Palm Springs, California at the historic Mary Pickford Theater on Saturday, December 7, 2019. The Winter Screening is just one of QPIFF's live events they hold each year, screening the top winners from each season. QPIFF will host multiple screenings and events throughout the year, including its Spring Screening in May 2020 & their 3-day Annual Awards Event in September 2020. QPIFF supports independent artists with year-round programs and offers awards and high-level prizes from sponsors, such as Epidemic Sound, Final Draft, Production Hub, Ink Tip, iPitchTV and numerous others.

QPIFF's upcoming Winter Event will host the Palm Springs Premiere of LGBTQ feature "Relish" starring Tyler DiChiara, Mateus Ward, & Hana Hayes, as well as showcase 30+ internationally acclaimed short films including "Salam" starring Leslie Bibb, "Scrap" starring Anthony Rapp & Vivian Kerr, "Cemetery Tales" starring Traci Lords, Bruce Davison, & Michael Broderick, Cannes standout "Anna" from acclaimed director Dekel Berenson, Student Academy Award® Finalist "Balloon", SXSW Shorts Winner "I Am MacKenzie", Brittany Snow's directorial debut "Milkshake", as well as a Special Spotlight screening of the 2019 Academy Award® Live-Action Short Winner, "Skin".
The QPIFF was founded in 2018 to discover diverse new voices and to promote the powerful stories of indie filmmakers across a wide spectrum of platforms. In QPIFF's inaugural season, 2,200 submissions were received, representing 65 countries and almost 700 first-time filmmakers. Just over 19% of the filmmakers in this year's competition were women; 45% were people of color or not of Caucasian descent; 8% identified as LGBTQIA+. Winners from their first year included several Academy Award® Short Listed films including Crime + Punishment (Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Social Issue Documentary), Caroline, Chuchotage, and Sister (Student Academy and BAFTA Award Finalist) and many other films.

In the summer of 2019, the QPIFF Annual Festival drew over 500 attendees from 30 U.S. states and 15 other countries. The 2nd Annual Queen Palm International Film Festival will take place September 18-20, 2020.
