The newly remastered and expanded holiday album arrives November 19, following two advance singles and ahead of a December 4 album release celebration at Feinstein's at the Nikko in San Francisco.
SAN FRANCISCO - Californer -- Three-time MAC Award nominee Russ Lorenson will release What I Want For Christmas (20th Anniversary Edition) on Nov. 19 through indie label RL Productions. The newly remastered and expanded album revisits Lorenson's first Christmas recording with refreshed sound, select reimagined arrangements, and a season-long campaign celebrating two decades of music and memories.
The album's first advance single, "My Favorite Time of Year (20th Anniversary Edition)," arrives Oct. 22 with a contemporary vocal-jazz celebration of Christmas in New York. "That's What I Want For Christmas (20th Anniversary Edition)" follows Nov. 5, with the complete album arriving Nov. 19. "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" closes the anniversary year on Dec. 26.
At the center of the album is a newly rebuilt version of "Christmas in San Francisco," the song that became Lorenson's de facto signature and inspired annual holiday shows for a decade. Lorenson first heard Vic Damone sing Tony Romano's composition on 96.5 KOIT shortly after moving to San Francisco in 1997. Lorenson's original digital-piano-and-vocal recording has now been reconstructed around his preserved 2006 vocal performance, with a new arrangement featuring grand piano, upright bass, drums, electric guitar, a string quartet, and a real San Francisco cable car bell.

"Christmas music has a remarkable way of carrying our memories," Lorenson said. "A familiar song can take us back to a particular place, a particular gathering, or a particular person before we've even reached the second verse. Revisiting this album twenty years later gave me the chance to preserve what mattered most while letting the music reflect the artist and person I am today. Every song became a different way of coming home."
The release continues a year-long celebration of Lorenson's twentieth anniversary as a recording artist. Earlier in 2026, he released a reimagined edition of his debut album, A Little Travelin' Music. In its first months, the anniversary edition generated four times the streams of the original and received airplay on more than 60 radio stations in 10 countries. During its first month, the anniversary edition reached Spotify listeners in more than 100 countries.
On Dec. 4, Lorenson and longtime collaborator Terese Genecco will bring their listening-party format to Feinstein's at the Nikko in San Francisco. The homecoming will be an album release celebration featuring conversation, music, memories, and stories from the album.
