Background: | The visit by Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy and the Dublin City Council delegation will take place March 8 – 12 and will serve as an opportunity to learn and engage in discussions about the City's services and programs related to housing, youth, the environment, and economic development. The Flag Raising Ceremony of the Irish and Dublin flags will include remarks by San José Mayor Matt Mahan, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councilor Caroline Conway, and Ireland Consul General Micheál Smith. Members of the San José City Council will also attend. The start of the Shamrock 5K run/walk will include remarks by Mayor Matt Mahan and the Lord Mayor of Dublin. Members of the Dublin delegation will also participate in the run/walk. The San José Dublin Sister City program is one of eight sister city affiliations that San José has established with cities from across the globe. The San José – Dublin sister city relationship was initiated in 1986 by then Mayor of San José, Tom McEnery, and former Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, then Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ireland. |
