Serpentine: A Cold War on Ice, a political thriller screenplay, receives the Hemingway Award, the festival's highest honor for a feature-length screenplay. Screenwriter Mark Lund brings two decades of experience in the sport as a publisher and TV personality.
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Mark Lund, an award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker, is pleased to announce that Serpentine: A Cold War on Ice has received the Hemingway Award at the LA Live Film Festival, the festival's highest honor for a feature-length screenplay.
In Serpentine, a champion figure skater finds herself drawn into a government conspiracy involving her missing mother and a Cold War mystery that culminates at the World Figure Skating Championships in Moscow. Set in the present day, Serpentine blends the labyrinthine intelligence intrigue of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with the personal, multigenerational espionage of The Americans, against the rarely explored world of international competitive figure skating.

"It's truly an honor to receive such a prestigious award for Serpentine: A Cold War on Ice," said Lund. "The LA Live Film Festival's support for independent filmmakers is well known in the industry. The Hemingway Award is a tremendous accolade for the screenplay and brings Serpentine one step closer to production."
Lund's experience in figure skating spans more than two decades. He founded and published International Figure Skating, which became the world's largest magazine devoted to the sport, and is the author of Frozen Assets: The New Order of Figure Skating, a book examining the business, politics and personalities behind competitive figure skating. In addition to his publishing and writing work, Lund served as a television analyst and personality. During the 2002 Winter Olympics, he appeared more than 200 times on domestic and international television and radio networks, including CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, FOX, ESPN, BBC, NPR, CBC and CTV. His work in figure skating also led to his role as a judge on FOX's Skating with Celebrities in 2006.
"Mark Lund is a gripping contemporary author whose electric storytelling and sharp, unexpected narratives keep readers completely on the edge of their seats," said Edward Bukowski, Festival Ambassador, LA Live Film Festival. "Serpentine is a high-stakes thriller that seamlessly blends the elegance and intense pressure of elite figure skating with the gritty, suspenseful atmosphere of a classic espionage novel."
