BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Californer -- Independent films under 40 minutes in length that were created after September 30, 2022 are eligible to obtain a September 2024 Academy Award® Nomination Qualifying Standard Theatrical Run. Immediate Registration is recommended, since this opportunity will close on September 6th!

To even be able to qualify for Academy Award® Nomination Consideration, a short film must first win an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved major film festival competition or have a seven consecutive day run of screenings in a Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved movie theatre.

Of course, it would cost a lone filmmaker thousands of US Dollars to rent one of these few theatres where they would Run their film. That is part of the reason why only the best financed short films ever even get Shortlisted by the Academy.
