SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 24, 2025 ~ San Francisco, CA - Skycharger, a leading developer of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, has been granted a lease to build a fast charging hub at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The lease was unanimously approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors at their June 10 meeting and by the SFO Airport Commission in April.

The EV Hub will cater to electric rideshare vehicles such as Uber and Lyft, as well as airport customers and the general public. Skycharger's CEO, Andy Karetsky, expressed gratitude for being selected to build this state-of-the-art facility. "Skycharger's EV Hub will be a next-generation facility that reflects the steadfast, bold leadership of SFO, San Francisco, and California in clean transportation technologies," he said.

The EV Hub aligns with SFO's sustainability efforts and supports their goal of achieving zero net carbon operations. It will also help meet the expected increase in demand for charging from rideshare vehicles due to California's Clean Miles Standard. This standard requires that 90% of Uber and Lyft miles be traveled by electric vehicles by 2030. Skycharger estimates that the EV Hub will result in avoiding over 200,000 tons of CO2 equivalent in its first ten years of operation.

Skycharger has partnered with engineering firm Burns & McDonnell to build the EV Hub. The facility will feature high-capacity chargers that provide rapid charging rates and can accommodate larger vehicles with large battery packs. This will minimize charging times for drivers and future-proof the site for upcoming electric vehicle models.

To support this advanced charging experience, Skycharger has chosen Kempower to supply its EV charging hardware for the project. Kempower is known for its scalable fast charging solutions and will provide 12 Power Cabinets and 24 Satellite dispensers for dynamic power distribution and high reliability across the site.

"We're moving quickly to bring this hub online," said Johannes Copeland, COO of Skycharger. "Kempower's flexible, high-performance charging technology is the right fit for this mission-critical deployment at one of the busiest airports in the country."

This project at SFO is just one of Skycharger's recent ventures in promoting clean transportation. They were recently awarded a $10 million grant from the California Energy Commission to build two publicly accessible electric truck stops along I-5 in Southern California. Last year, they were also selected by the Port of San Diego to construct a 70-port electric truck charging hub on Port property, which will include a solar array, battery energy storage system, convenience store, and community benefits program.

Skycharger's EV Hub at SFO is expected to have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation in the region. With their cutting-edge technology and partnerships with industry leaders, Skycharger is leading the way towards a cleaner future for transportation.
