Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Airport (LGB) has launched its third year of the Careers Taking Flight externship program, providing high school students with hands-on exposure to careers in aviation and connecting them directly with industry professionals and employers. The program, conducted in partnership with Long Beach Unified School District, offers a 40-hour immersive experience for two cohorts of 12 students from Cabrillo and Jordan high schools.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating that it not only empowers and uplifts youth but also strengthens Long Beach's connection to the aviation industry. He believes that by providing students with the necessary tools, access, and inspiration, the program is helping to launch a new generation of diverse aviation professionals.

The selection process for the externship is highly competitive, with over 150 students applying for the opportunity this year. Successful participants receive a $500 incentive upon completion of the weeklong program. Additionally, two graduates from previous cohorts are currently serving as interns at LGB this summer.
